Just to let everyone know that we have collected reading books in today as we are reorganising the reading scheme during the half term holidays. Reading books will restart when we return to school on Wednesday 9th November. Thank you.
We have been teaching the children how to use the toaster in the Snack Café. They have been practising their spreading skills and buttering their own toast. They have, of course, also done the washing up!
This afternoon we made apple crumble. The children joined in with making the crumble topping and then we set them to work cutting the apples. It was a bit too hot to eat so we decided to try it tomorrow - we can't wait!
We have been taking advantage of the mild October weather and doing some gardening this week. We have harvested some carrots that were planted by last year's Reception children and are going to eat them for our snack. We have also been planting daffodils to make our area look bright and cheerful in the Spring. This week we have been learning about the Jewish celebration, Rosh Hashannah. Rosh Hashannah is the Jewish New Year and is an Autumn festival. Jewish people dip apples in honey, eat sweet foods and wish each other 'Shana Tova', which means have a sweet new year. We tried some pomegranate seeds on the snack table and are going to be making apple crumble and honey cakes next week. There will also be an opportunity for you to come in and see what we have been doing next Friday (14.10.16) at 2:45pm. We hope to see you then.
Yesterday we were visited by our School Nurse. We learnt all about keeping clean, especially washing our hands. We used glitter to represent the germs and learnt about how we pass on germs if we don't wash our hands properly. We also learnt about brushing our teeth and practised using some giant teeth and a giant toothbrush!
We have strong links with our School Nurse so if you ever need any advice regarding your child's health and well being, we are happy to help you get in touch with her. She is able to provide support with various health issues, for example, bed wetting, head lice and nutrition. |
