What a busy Shrove Tuesday we've had! We have been reading the story of The Runaway Pancake and today set up a Pancake Parlour! We had some excellent staff who helped to run and manage the restaurant and the chefs didn't do a bad job either! Customers could choose from syrup, sugar and lemon as their toppings, all for the very reasonable price of 5p! As well as applying our Maths skills in the Parlour, we also used our English skills to write instructions for making pancakes.
We have been so busy since we've come back after the holidays - we can hardly believe it's only been a week! We have been reading Little Red Riding Hood and had great fun acting out the story and creating our own story maps. We have also been continuing to develop our understanding of place value in maths. We have been partitioning numbers into tens and ones using Numicon and Base 10 equipment. We have been learning the song 'Numbers in the teens have a group of ten'. We also made cakes like Mummy did for Grandma and iced them. In an alternative version of Little Red Riding Hood called 'Little Red', the little boy in a red coat rescues Grandma by giving the wolf some ginger beer. We decided to try some ginger beer with our cakes. Yum! Yesterday we tried some Chinese food. We tried rice noodles, prawn crackers and spring rolls. We had a vote to decide which sauce to try with sweet and sour being the winner. Some of the children were a bit reluctant to try the different foods but with encouragement had a go - the prawn crackers were a definite hit!
