Prepare for a mammoth post full of photographs! Apologies for the lack of updates, the end of term was very, very busy! Here's a catch up of some of the things we got up to.
We embraced the excitement of Halloween and explored pumpkins. The one we cut open was a bit smelly and very slimy!
We have been doing lots of counting and making use of all our natural, autumn objects that the children collected. We spend lots of time modelling careful counting and matching objects to numerals. We have also been encouraging the children to record their counting and maths using their own marks.
There has been lots of talk about birthdays and celebrations recently so we decided to find out about Diwali, a Hindu and Sikh festival of light that happens at this time of year. We read the story of Rama and Sita and learnt about some of the festival traditions. The children explored clay which is used to make diva lamps and we created a dark den to investigate light .
We have also been investigating materials by making and testing boats. We have been encouraging the children to model with an idea in mind, thinking about the materials and tools that they would need to use. Testing the boats providing an excellent opportunity to reflect on how the materials performed and the children could suggest and make changes if necessary.
We also had fun visiting the woods . We listened and looked carefully, whilst avoiding the giant muddy puddles! One muddy puddle we couldn't avoid was the one in our outdoor area - we had great fun in our wellies and even tried to build a bridge through it to stop our socks getting wet!
Finally, we hope you've all been having a lovely half term so far and the children are getting plenty of rest. There was no home learning but a quick revision of sounds is always useful and we're sure there's plenty of number and letter spotting going on whilst you're out and about. If you fancy something new, you can have a watch of this tricky word video we have been using at school - another catchy tune to sing! :)
